Antique French Oval Jewelry Box with hinged lid and bucolic scene, c. 1900
This is such an interesting box! It could be used for so many things. The bentwood is much sturdier and thicker than later versions of bentwood. It opens and closes perfectly on a hinge with a very unique hinge opening. The inside is painted in a gorgeous “French Blue” paint and is in great condition. Sadly the top and sides have some of the paper torn away, but it is likely 150 years old. The top has darkened a bit but the bucolic “toile jouy” design is intact. This one needs to go to someone special!
