This set of 4 antique French faience/transferware plate was made by the Choisy-le-Roi pottery near Paris in the late 1800s. It is part of the Jeanne d’Arc series, which features beautifully detailed transfer prints of scenes from the life of Joan of Arc, France’s national heroine.
These plates are stamped with the Médaille d’Or (Gold Medal) mark on the back, a sign of the factory’s award-winning quality and craftsmanship. With its historic subject and classic black-on-white transfer design, it makes a striking decorative piece for display, or a thoughtful gift for a lover of French history and antiques.
All four plates are in excellent condition. A bit of browning that happens to faience with age, but not chips or cracks. There is one tiny factory defect in the center of the "burning" plate (see photos).
