French Antique Gilt Framed Mirror

$325.00

If you want a truly original French piece that is very authentic, this is it.

Gilt mirrors have been a popular decorative item for centuries, adding light and elegance to interiors. The process of gilding, applying a thin layer of gold leaf to a surface, was a skilled craft often used on furniture, frames, and architectural details.

During the early Victorian era, mirrors became more accessible to the middle class, leading to a wider variety of styles and designs. Mirrors from this period often feature ornate frames made of wood, gesso, and gilt.

It is in very good condition given its age. The desilvering seen on the mirror is a common sign of age, as the silvering on the back of the glass degrades over time. There is also some chipping in dark red the wood portion, as well as the gilt (see photos). But this mirror is OLD. It is very possible it is pre-Victorian.

Ships fully insured.
