These are really unique canvas bags from France used for carrying water. I talked with a gentleman and his father about these at the market and they said even though they have been used for other purposes, their original purpose was carrying water during the wars when metal was not available. He thinks (and I agree based on color and construction) that these are from WWI because he said, "I was a kid during WWII and they didn't look like this." :) :)

These would make a great addition to any garden for flowers or for a gift for a WWI enthusiast.
