RARE - Antique French Double Photo Frame with Candle Holder — Belle Époque Brass Ormolu Beveled Glass with Original Photographs
This antique French porte-bougie — circa 1880–1900 — is not simply a double photo frame. It was designed so that a single candle flame would illuminate the faces of those you loved most. Set on a dressing table. Lit at nightfall. It is VERY RARE to find these -- with two frames and a candle holder, especially with the original photos. Most ormolu frames are single with no candle holder
Two beveled glass panels, both intact, are bordered in gilt brass ormolu and crowned with ribbon-and-bow finials — quintessential Louis XVI revival metalwork. Between them, a cast brass column ornamented with acanthus leaves holds a single candle cup. Ball feet at the base. Verdigris patina that took a century to earn.
Inside: the original photographs. A bearded gentleman in a polka-dot cravat on the left — every inch the Third Republic Frenchman. A man with his bicycle on the right — the great fin de siècle status symbol. Both original to the frame. Both still here.
