Antique French Cake Plate — Choisy-le-Roi Sévigné Terre de Fer, circa 1900
An intricate border of dark green flowers, trailing foliage, and curling arabesques gives this antique French cake plate its distinctive character. The dark transfer decoration contrasts beautifully with the softly aged ivory ground, while a low, broad foot lifts it just above the table.
Made in the Sévigné pattern and marked “H B & Cie — Terre de Fer,” this piece is attributed to the Choisy-le-Roi pottery near Paris. Its understated height makes it especially lovely displayed on a dresser or sideboard, where the elaborate border can be enjoyed.
A beautiful addition to a collection of French transferware, or a thoughtful gift for someone who loves old French pottery.
