This is one of those pieces that is unmistakably French.

Dating to the early 20th century, this beautiful antique teapot was made in Saint-Uze, France, an area celebrated for its distinctive Terre d’Acier ceramics. Unlike many pieces whose origins have been lost to time, this one retains its wonderful “TERRE D’ACIER – SAINT UZE” mark on the base.

The creamy ivory pottery is scattered with delicate blue floral sprigs, while the wonderfully sculptural handle gives the teapot an almost whimsical quality. Its original fitted lid is decorated inside and out—a particularly charming detail.

Best of all, it is in excellent antique condition with no chips, remarkable for a utilitarian piece that has survived for more than a century. There is light crazing and the subtle variations you would expect from an authentic antique.

Beautiful displayed on its own, tucked among ironstone and blue-and-white pottery, or sitting on an open kitchen shelf. This is genuine old French pottery—not a reproduction made to capture the look.
