Antique French Wall Coat Rack | Belle Époque Cast Iron Double Hooks on Oak Board | Late 19th Century Porte-Manteau
This is a French porte-manteau mural — a wall-mounted coat rack from France, dating to the late 19th or very early 20th century, when hats were still a part of everyday life. The solid wood board, likely oak or chestnut, carries four original cast iron double-arm hooks: each one fitted with an upper curl for a hat and a lower sweep for a coat. The iron brackets are cast with small relief detail at the base — a quiet flourish from the Belle Époque, when even utilitarian hardware was given a moment of care. One of the arms is missing the small screw, but can be replaced. I have cleaned it up a bit with orange oil, without removing the time-worn patina. In great condition for its age.
